Northwest Lower Michigan

Arrived this morning in Traverse, Michigan. We are staying in a "better" RV park because we needed full hookups and a laundry, and such stuff. There is a small narrow peninsula that runs straight up the middle of the Lake Michigan bay that is just north of Traverse. We drove it this afternoon, up one side and down the other. It was spectacular! We found an old General Store that had been there over a hundred years, and bought some stuff and some ice cream. Sandy couldn't eat all hers, so I HAD to help out.... that's what husbands DO!

I was surprised that the shore of Lake Michigan on this side is very sandy! There are natural beaches everywhere, with lots of them PRIVATE beaches. The road we were on went right beside the water, to within 50 feet. On the left were the houses, and on the right was the water, with steps down to the private beaches that might only be 100 feet wide. They had decks, lawnchairs, campfire pits, boats, and signs that said, "Private Beach".
We are going to tour more of the coast tomorrow, and will have more photos. Sandy is doing better now. We will continue up into the UP later this week, and just play it by ear.
